Small town, Country Girl

Hello. Hi there. Welcome to my blog! Seems surreal writing that, it's never really been on my list of things to do with my beauty business, yet here we are! I class myself as a beauty enthusiast but it hasn't always been that way. For the last few years I have struggled with finding my passion, the one thing I want to do for the rest of my life, the job that doesn't feel like work. I think I may have found my passion with the beauty industry. Growing up in a small rural town in Mid Canterbury, so I wasn't exposed to anything beauty related until I went to boarding school in Timaru. This is when the passion ignited deep within me, but I never in a million years expected that it could ever be a career. It all started in my later years of High School, I would sit alone in my room in the hostel and at home watching hours and hours worth of Youtube videos, Shaaanxo, Carli Bybel, Nikkie Tutorials and so many more. This is where my self taught make up skills started. I spent the majority of my own hard earned money that I earned working at Caltex in Mayfield on make up. Everything from eyeshadow palettes to fake nails and started convincing people around me to be my practice models. If I ever did this to you, I'm sorry, my skills were rough back then. As bad as I was it was essential to building my skills and confidence to where I am today.

Where I really started.

I had no idea where to start. It was so new for me (a lot like this). I didn't even know if I was 100% sure that I wanted to start. My Mum was a massive driving force behind me, almost like she knew that this would end up being something that I love doing, more than what I am currently doing. My make up skills were barely being used, I was and am still unsure if I will be able to do make up professionally, it is a lot of pressure that I'm not entirely sure how to handle. It all happened after my little sister went to get her eyelashes done, I have had extensions before but in Bali so not the nicest application. after seeing the difference in my sisters appearance and confidence after getting her nice ones done I decided that eyelash extensions would be where I started. As scared as I was I started shopping around for courses to do to get my qualification, after asking around and so much research I found a place up in Christchurch, where I didn't have to take any time off work and I could get it done quickly, in only one day.

Life tip:

You can do anything you feel passionate about in your real adult life. Don't be too scared to start something because you're too scared to fail, or scared of what other people are going to think. Your quality of life will increase dramatically once you are finally honest with yourself about your passions.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Don't panic, just breathe

2. Turn off your phone at least 1 whole weekend a month - reset, go somewhere off the grid

3. Workout - or whatever you need to do as a stress relief especially in the beginning

4. Never tell yourself no, positivity is key

If I can do it, anyone can. If I can unlock my courage to start my very own business from scratch without first working in this business before then you can do the same. I am beyond excited to start making people beautiful and confident.
